Sampson-Stokes Scholarship Fund

The NCNW Richmond Section Sampson-Stokes Scholarship Fund is a powerful opportunity for aspiring Black female highschool seniors seeking to pursue studies in S.T.E.A.M. This scholarship aims to empower and support young women in their academic and professional pursuits in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. It is an impactful initiative that highlights the importance of diversity and inclusivity in these fields, providing essential support to help these students realize their full potential.

Purpose: The Sampson-Stokes Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to college-bound high school seniors based on academic achievement, financial need, and a passion for pursuing a S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, aiming to support the next generation of leaders.

Application: The Sampson-Stokes Scholarship Fund application opens February of every year.  For consideration, all application material must be submitted via the application form by March 31, at 11:59 PM EST.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Criteria: Applicants must meet the following criteria for consideration:

•    Must be a graduating high school senior. 
•    Applicant must be an African American female.
•    Reside in Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico or Richmond resident, must be a United States citizen.
•    Proof of acceptance to an accredited four-year college, university or Trade School for the upcoming Fall semester. 
•    Submit a typed PDF or docx personal statement (max 650 words) Answering the following question and demonstrating the following:
o    What are your future goals and how will this scholarship aid in attaining those goals?
o    Interest in the intersection of S.T.E.A.M. education
o    What are your future goals and how will this scholarship aid in attaining those goals?
o    Commitment to community service through volunteer efforts
o    If applicable, please share any challenges, financial or otherwise, that you may have encountered while pursuing higher education. (Please note: Sharing hardships is not mandatory for scholarship consideration, but it will be taken into strong consideration.)
•    2 Letters of Recommendation on official letterhead (one must be from a school administrator, business and community leader or church officials and addressed to the Scholarship Committee). 
•    Provide community Service Record.
•    Provide an official sealed copy of your high school transcript.
•    Commitment to participation in the Sampson-Stokes scholarship program if selected.
o    As a recipient of the scholarship award, you have the opportunity to be a part of our Annual Fundraiser and share your experiences of receiving the award.

Guidelines: Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis and disbursed in equal payments in August and January. Students must continue to attend classes and maintain no lower than a 3.0 grade-point average (or equivalent). Applicants will be notified by mail/email if a scholarship is awarded the recipient will receive a certificate at an event that the Section deems appropriate.

Renewal Process: This scholarship is not renewable. Only high school seniors intending to enroll in a four-year college or university pursuing a S.T.E.AM. education. Previous scholarship recipients cannot re-apply.
